Learn About Canning

At this Pine Mountain Skillshare held June 30, 2022, fifteen neighbors gathered to teach and learn about canning. The Blount Countian published a story and photo from the event!
Attendees got a hands-on look at modern and vintage canners, tips on equipment and tools and how to most economically purchase, how to set pressure whether or not your cooker has a gauge, addressed the fears of botulism and pressure cooking that prevent many from getting started, talked about the two types of canning and where they overlap, and watched as Jon demonstrated the canning of fresh peas on the stovetop.
Sue, Jon, and Raetta shared their extensive experience canning everything from vegetables to chicken, soups and chilis, jams and jellies, even apple pie filling and BBQ sauce! Raetta also provided a step-by-step demonstration on green bean canning and offered her method for her pepper sauce that is wonderful in salad dressings, antipasto, and on greens, cornbread, and so much more!
