senior supports

  • RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, is a free resource offered by Positive Maturity's Americorps Senior Corps. RSVP's mission is to provide a variety of opportunities for everyone 55 and older to participate more fully in their community through volunteer service. RSVP is a service of Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker Counties. For Blount County, call Jennifer Reagan Rock, Director, at 205-625-4901.
  • Springville Senior Center offers a low-cost lunch (available to all ages), fitness and craft classes, bingo, cards and games, day trips, travel, and other events.
  • Clay Senior Activity Center offers games, entertainment, education, travel, and hot lunch to Jefferson County residents over 60 years old.
  • Locust Fork Senior Center offers a hot lunch, fellowship, and games.
  • Oneonta Senior Center hosts activities, recreational time, devotions, and lunch.

food pantries, Pet food, clothes closets

  • As of May 2024, Pine Mountain has a blessing box! It is located at the Community Center. Residents are welcome to give and take shelf-stable, critter-proof food.
  • Just west of Pine Mountain, The Church at Remlap has a blessing box on their front porch. Palmerdale Methodist Church offers a food pantry and clothes closet.
  • Springville offers two blessings boxes: in front of Springville Antique Mall and in the Springville Senior Center. Another is down the road at Argo Hardware.
  • The Hornet Pantry is located in front of Locust Fork Pharmacy.
  • Bridging the Gap in Blount County (also on FB), located at 28252 State Hwy 75 in Oneonta, provides budgeting education, a local food pantry, and additional resources to Blount County residents.

  • Visit the Secretary of State Voter Registration page to register to vote or update your registration online or via mail.
  • Voting locations and lists of registered voters are published prior to each election in the newspaper (e.g. Blount Countian) and at Alabama Public Notice.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous meets in Oneonta. As of this writing, meetings are every Monday and Thursday from 7–8 pm at the Sanctuary Coffee Shop. Call 205-237-0593 or 205-237-0592 for more information or to confirm.
  • Palmerdale Methodist Church hosts a GriefShare support group each fall.
  • Blount County offers public transportation for residents of all ages.
