At Saturday evening's Pine Mountain Community Center meeting, the board reported that the Annual Bluegrass & BBQ Fundraiser raised over $9,000 on $18,000 of BBQ and raffle sales. "To pull off an event of this scale with all volunteers is nothing short of a miracle," said PMCC board president Terry Hallmark.
The June 25 event was headlined by Shannon Slaughter & County Clare, whose namesake guitarist-vocalist also teaches and coaches offensive line at Springville High School in St. Clair County. The seven-band lineup and the BBQ drew attendees from near and far. Meat was available by preorder, and chopped pork and smoked chicken meals were served with homemade sauce, slaw, baked beans, bread, and dessert. Proceeds fund the Community Center's operation and special projects, including the playground scheduled for installation this week.
In other news, new locks were installed at the Center's main building, the former Blount Highland two-room schoolhouse.
The next PMCC meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 6 pm at the Pine Mountain Community Center, 4481 Pine Mountain Rd in Remlap. All are welcome.
