Bluegrass Jamboree Gallery 08.24.2024
The August 2024 Pine Mountain Bluegrass Jamboree featured headliners The Ancient Tones plus jamming, open stage, and house band Pine Mountain Bluegrass .
Todd Freeman on bass, Adam Duke on guitar, and Rick Rorex on mandolin on stage with bluegrass supergroup the Ancient Tones. I was excited to see Adam again after being wowed by the excellent Another Town show at Pine Mountain in 2022 . It's no surprise that the Ancient Tones were exceptional as well. And I loved that everyone was clearly having fun, especially the three in this picture who smiled and laughed throughout.
Allen Tolbert, on the other hand, tends to be very serious while playing — which makes it a delightful challenge to catch him smiling! Often, the smiles peak through during the jokes and banter between songs. Allen took the stage on Saturday with both the Ancient Tones and Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band.
Virtuoso Sharon Bounds of the Ancient Tones is a multi-state champ fiddler! Check out Sharon's solo in this song from Saturday's show.
Whether you missed the show or would enjoy a second listen, you can enjoy Weston Stewart's pickin' in Be Assured , a Gospel number from the Ancient Tones.
The community of bluegrass musicians and aficionados are among the warmest, most welcoming folks I've had the pleasure to meet. It's always great to see these two Pine Mountain regulars, Bill Riddle (clapping) and Bill White (center).

Have you ever met an old friend for the first time? The smiles come easily to Todd and it's a joy to watch. My face may be hidden by the camera but whenever he and his bandmates were grinning, so was I. Their enjoyment is infectious and is a perfect accompaniment to the music. And listen to Todd sing!
Get a taste of Adam Duke's powerful voice, storytelling, and songwriting chops in the immediately memorable Down in a Cell .
I hadn't even left the parking lot when when I met my first friend at the August Jamboree – this adorable pup named Blue who was just chilling on the grass between parked cars.
Soon Blue joined us in the pavilion for some tunes!
The Ancient Tones delighted the audience at Bluegrass Jamboree.
Between sets, Gary Waldrep offered invitations to the 6th Annual Camp and Jam on the Farm at Gary's farm in Kilpatrick, Alabama. The event is Friday, September 20, and Saturday, September 21. And it's free! with donations appreciated.
Mickey Dooley and Bluegrass Jamboree's house band, Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band, put on a great show every month at 5pm leading up to the headliners.
Fiddler Kerry Franklin performs with Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band.
Bassist Ken Bearden on stage with Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band. Like Allen, Ken is often passionate and intense while playing, which is awesome to watch — as are the smiles between songs!
Mickey Dooley and Freddy Clowdus of Pine Mountain Bluegrass Band. Mickey and Freddy not only share their music with us but work tirelessly, with lots of support from Connie and Tina, to make Bluegrass Jamboree happen each month.
Special guest Terry Tibbs, who we also got to see in August 2022 (when Another Town headlined ), along with Emily Nicole Savage and Tiffany Tibbs who I think are Terry's family!
